Printed on Mohawk Superfine paper, 145gsm, using an Albion press. There are 50 copies in the edition. The main setting is Magma. It is quarter bound in cloth, with a printed patterned paper and comes in a cloth-bound wrapper with magnetic fastening. The design, graphics, printing and binding are by Paul L. Kershaw.
Being quite slim and compact, Gathering has a notebook feel to it. In all but the first opening the image is on the recto. Poems, other integrated text and the images are intended to complement each other; there is no attempt at illustration. As the book has taken quite a long time to come together the sense of random accumulation and relaxed experimentation are embraced as a natural outcome. So less emphasis in the layout is placed on rigorous precision and uniformity. Instead the character of collecting this or that, and finding a place to store them, has been accepted. There is light-hearted playfulness too. All the elements have been relief-printed, with the images comprising up to eight layers of colour.
